Scottie Advice....

Hi All,

This is Angus and Molly's peep here.  We have a few questions for all you Scottie owners out there....especially those who have more than one which includes a male.  We've been talking about having Angus "fixed", however due to our schedules and the length of recovery time for him, we haven't been able to get it done.  Over the last month or so, we've noticed he seems to be more and more aggressive.  As in....anything he looks at "Angus owns".  If we're playing with Molly, he will attack her as if to say "I own them get lost".  It starts out as their bitey face fight but quickly turns to him biting her.

We have always given them equal play time and they've always been together...they're brother and sister and we brought them home at the same time.

If we have them out for a drive, it's usually calm and they enjoy it....but if she looks at him the wrong way it's game over.

The humourous part (if there is one) is that he's smaller than she is.  She's taller and leaner....he's got the typical short legs and muscular body.  Yet he seems to dominate.  We are hoping that if we take him out of the gene pool (har har), it will help with his behaviour.  Any other suggestions or thoughts?  Is this something anyone else has dealt with??

We look forward to your responses.

Sincerely,
Amanda & Ray

  2. Well, I live by myself, but as I was growing into a man, I became more and more of a mess (as my peeps like to say).

I could smell those girls from miles away and I simply wanted to have my way with any who ventured anywhere near my house.

I had my snip job at around a year old (which, according to some vets, is too old, and according to some breeders is just right).

I'm glad I had it done. I calmed down and now, of course, I'm perfect. Absolutely perfect.

Some say that the snip job also helps us Scotties prevent cancer (we're cancer magnets according to some folks). So, I'd recommend that you seriously consider it.

    Good luck my friend!

  3. We've mainly had females in our family (Bella and I are numbers 8 &9...the only two males SHE had, both died young from getting out of the yard...so SHE's stuck to females.

Sounds like the snip may be the way to go.

  4. Hi guys,
Just found your blog. While we didn't have Prescott as a puppy and he was fixed just before we rescued him as an adult, Prescott and Joules got along great from the start because he is generally a calm relaxed dog, even with Joules as the dominant first dog. Turns out, after having him a while, Prescott is the dominant one but protects Joules from other dogs if needed. He can still be dominant with other male dog furiends but has been amenable to my constant training him to calm down and not lunge out of excitement.
    Good luck, Joules and Prescott

  6. OK, here goes, Sidebite was fixed, snipped, trimmed, as he says there was stuff removed that was important. However, yes this did slow him down a bit, he doesn't show much aggession (except to his brother). It also didn't take but a day or two after the WORK was done and he was back, running, barking and kissing up to dad.

One last thingy, BOX ME UP SOME OF THAT WATER AN UPS IT DOWN HERE!!!!!!!!!
